The generosity of guests attending the Highlands and Islands Press Ball and Media Awards is helping give young people in the area the knowledge and confidence to stay safe from harm.

Safe Strong and Free Highland is one of four organisations who each received £850 from fundraising at HIPBMA in February.

The charity is dedicated to keeping children and young people safe from bullying, strangers, and sexual abuse

Through interactive, age-appropriate workshops, SSF Highland equips children with essential strategies to protect themselves from bullying, unwanted approaches from strangers and inappropriate touches.

Recognising the challenges children face today, the programme also delivers sessions on online safety and emotional wellbeing, incorporating Decider Skills, evidence-based techniques that help children manage their emotions and make positive choices.

Backed by research from the University of Stirling’s Child Protection and Wellbeing Centre, SSF Highland’s work has been proven to help children retain vital safety messages.

By working closely with schools and communities across the Highlands, SSF Highland ensures that every child has access to engaging, empowering and potentially life-changing safety education.

Project manager Kerry Lowe said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Highlands and Islands Press Ball and Media Awards for their generous support.

“This donation will help us continue delivering vital safety education to children across the Highlands, empowering them with the knowledge and confidence to stay safe from harm.

“With this support, we can ensure even more young people have access to our workshops. ”
